But for some students, financial hardship or difficult family circumstances can make continuing their education feel out of reach.

That's why we created Roots for Youth.

This week, we're sharing the story behind this special charity, how it helps local students pursue post-secondary education and how our community can help plant the seeds for a brighter future.

Because sometimes, a little support at the right time can make all the difference.

Where is all Started

Roots for Youth is a charitable foundation established in 2018 by the Ferragine family, the founding owners of Bradford Greenhouses.

After decades of supporting charitable causes, the family wanted to direct its efforts toward something close to home, helping young people who were struggling to continue their education because of family tragedy or financial hardship.

The goal was simple:

Help give young people the opportunity to keep growing.

Helping Make Post-Secondary Education Possible

Roots for Youth provides bursaries to qualifying students who are attending or planning to attend a post-secondary institution full-time.

The bursaries are designed to help reduce the financial burden of tuition and are provided to assist with fall and winter semesters.

For eligible students, support may also continue for more than one year if they re-enter the application process.

It's more than financial assistance.

It's an opportunity to continue an education, pursue a career and build a future.

Who Are We Helping?

Roots for Youth primarily focuses on local students who are facing difficult family or financial situations.

The foundation considers circumstances where a student is struggling because of hardship and has a demonstrated need for financial assistance.

There is also a special connection to the work we do at Bradford Greenhouses. Preference is given to applicants pursuing horticultural or environmental studies, while the primary focus remains supporting local students experiencing difficult family or financial circumstances.

Because helping the next generation doesn't just mean helping them find a career.

It means helping them find a place in their community.

Why "Roots for Youth"?

The name was chosen intentionally.

Just like a plant needs strong roots to establish itself and grow, young people need a strong foundation and opportunities to develop their potential.

Roots for Youth aims to help students plant their roots, continue their education and grow into productive members of their communities.

It's a simple idea, but one we believe in deeply.

Planting Possibility

You're helping create possibility.

Possibility for a student to stay in school.

Possibility for someone to pursue a career they are passionate about.

Possibility for a young person to overcome circumstances that could otherwise stand in their way.
